Skin Whitening Tips for Festive Season

Skin Whitening Tips for Festive Season - Shahnaz Husain

There are many natural skin whitening methods, which are better than bleaching. The use of chemical bleaches has detrimental effects on the skin making it dry and dull. The skin loses its healthy texture and glow, becomes vulnerable to the signs of early ageing.

Facial scrubs are quite useful for removing tan. Ingredients like saffron, cucumber, lemon, almonds, turmeric, yogurt, buttermilk, tomato, etc., help to lighten skin colour. These are certainly safer than chemical bleaches and actually benefit the skin in other ways.

Ground almonds (badaam) make a good facial scrub. Add a little curd or cold milk to two teaspoons of grounds almonds and rub the mixture gently on the skin. Wash it off with water. Mixing rice powder with curd and using it as a scrub helps oily skins.

Or, take 2 teaspoons curd, add a little turmeric (haldi) and apply daily. Wash it off after 20 to 30 minutes.

To whiten oily skin: Mix cucumber pulp with yogurt and apply on the face daily. Wash it off after 20 minutes. Or, mix tomato pulp with one teaspoon honey and apply daily for 20 minutes.

Saffron: Add a few strands of saffron to warm milk and let it stand for a couple of ours. Then apply it on the skin, using cotton wool. It is said to lighten skin colour over a period of time.

For oily skin, mix multani mitti with rose water and lemon juice into a paste and apply on the face. Wash it off when it is dry.

For hands: Take 2 tablespoons sunflower oil and 3 tablespoon coarse sugar. Mix together till it becomes a paste. Apply and rub into hands. Rinse off after 15 minutes.

For feet: Add lemon juice in water and soak feet in it. Cools, cleans and removes tan and odour. Rubbing a lemon on the feet also helps.
