Shahnaz Husain’s Shasight……from darkness towards light
Shahnaz Husain wanted to make a positive contribution towards empowering the less privileged by supporting vocational beauty training for the physically challenged, so that they have the means to be financially independent and self-reliant. Shasight was started in 2008 to provide free beauty training to the visually challenged. Shasight is offering free vocational training and career opportunities for the visually impaired. The teachers are specially trained in teaching students with such specific handicaps. At the end of the course the students receive the Shahnaz Husain Beauty Diploma, so that they can find jobs and lead meaningful lives.
Shahnaz Husain has also written a book on beauty, which has been put into Braille for the visually impaired students. The book also serves as a reference book, as they can keep referring to it. It contains all the details of massage, the various massage strokes and also includes theoretical knowledge of the skin and hair, skin and hair types and problems, clinic management and business management.
Shahnaz Husain often spends time with the students of theBlindSchool, of the Blind Relief Association of Delhi. Her academy has trained the visually impaired students in acupressure, which they are able to do efficiently, as their sense of touch is very acute. They will also be given training in making hand-made soap. The proceeds after sales of the soap will go towards their betterment and this fact will be mentioned on the label.
Indeed, Shahnaz Husain is the ray of hope in a world of darkness for the visually impaired students.
