Are You Washing Your Hair the Right Way?

Almost all of us wash our hair about twice or thrice a week. However, even though this one of the most frequent activities, are we really doing it right? Adhere to these basic six steps to make sure you get the best out of your hair wash, everytime! –

  1. Do not wash your hair too frequently, remember – Less is More!

We know you use the best quality organic shampoo, but any shampoo, if used too often, will surely have adverse effects on the hair. Washing your hair more than twice or thrice a week can rid it off some of the essential oils on your scalp and can lead to damage, dryness and breakage.

  1. Use Filtered water which is at room temperature.

We know a steamy hot shower can sound relaxing, but exposing your hair to such high temperatures can render them dry and lifeless. Use warm water instead and just before getting out of the shower, rinse with one round of cold water. While warm water opens the hair cuticle, cold water closes it, helping to lock in moisture and benefiting your hair in the long run. Also invest in a water filter so that impure water doesn’t lead to hair damage.

  1. Apply Gentle Pressure to Massage your Scalp

Applying extra pressure while oiling and shampooing can break your hair. Applying gently pressure avoids breakage and increases blood flow to the scalp, thus helping to stimulate hair growth.

  1. Carefully choose a Shampoo that best suits your hair type

As is with skin care, it is imperative to choose a shampoo which best suits your hair type and texture. If you have oily hair, choose a mild purifying shampoo instead of one which over-moisturizes your hair.

  1. Leave In your Conditioner for about 5-7 Minutes

Patience is golden! Apply your conditioner from the mid-length down to the ends and leave it on for about 5-7 minutes to get the best results!

  1. Your job isn’t done after washing your hair!

The manner you maintain your hair after it has been washed is critical to its general health and look. Let your hair dry completely before you comb or style it. Towel dry but do not run too vigorously. Remember, wet hair is weaker than dry hair hence more prone to damage.
