Summer Hair Care Shahnaz Husain

Summer care for the hair comprises of the dry summer season and the time when humidity is high. During summer, excessive sun-exposure can make the hair dry, leading to split ends and hair breakage. Cover the hair with a scarf, a hat or dupatta, or carry a parasol.

Chlorine in swimming pools and salt in sea water make the hair dry, matted and dull. Wet the hair well before and after a swim. Hair is porous, but it can absorb that much and no more. Rinse out the hair with plain water after a swim.

For dry hair, apply Shalocks Plus herbal hair oil or Neem Hair Treatment oil the night before shampoo.

High humidity during summer can also pose a problem, especially to those with oily hair. Oily hair tends to attract dirt and pollutants from the atmosphere more easily. The look of the hair really suffers. It becomes limp soon after a shampoo and loses its shine, body and bounce. The salt in your sweat, along with environmental grime, makes the hair rough and robs it of its lustre and body.

If you perspire a lot, you will find that you need to shampoo your hair more frequently. Use Shahenna Plus shampoo for oily hair and Shamla Plus for dry hair. Use less shampoo and rinse your hair well with water. If your hair is oily and limp, avoid rich conditioners. Try hair rinses, like Sharinse Plus or Wild Thyme Hair Conditioning Lotion. Many people want to know if they can shampoo their hair daily. It is quite safe to shampoo your hair daily, if required, but you must use mild herbal shampoo. Take care to use less shampoo and rinse your hair well with water, to get rid of all soapy residues. One application of shampoo is enough if you wash your hair daily. Even short, layered hairstyles require frequent shampoos to maintain body and style. A henna-based herbal shampoo (Shahenna Plus) is ideal during humid conditions.

Henna treatments will help, using Professional Power Henna Precious Herb Mix. It is a unique combination of henna and other plant extracts. It is specially formulated for cleansing and conditioning the hair powerfully. It helps to remove dandruff flakes and cleanse the scalp, making the hair appear healthy and lustrous. Mix 2 cups of the henna with 2 raw eggs, 4 teaspoons each of lemon juice and coffee and half cup yoghurt, into a paste of toothpaste consistency. Apply on hair and leave on for one hour. Wash off. May give a reddish tinge to white or light coloured hair. If colour is desired, avoid yoghurt. For dry hair, add 2 teaspoons oil.
