Flowers
are of great benefit in beauty treatments. That is
why we introduced an entire range based on floral
extracts, called Flower Power. The range is based
on Ayurveda and consists of cleansers, toner,
nourishing cream, mask, hair tonic, hair oil, face
treatment cream, protective cream and so on. Apart
from their specific properties, which help to
nourish, protect and maintain natural beauty,
flowers have a calming and relaxing effect on the
mind. They provide an ideal defense against
environmental stresses and mental stress. In
modern cosmetic care, these two are the prime
requisites for beauty. Thus, they are highly
relevant to modern demands. Many beauty problems
are triggered off by mental stress, like acne and
hair loss. The essential oils of flowers help in
such stress-related conditions, as their
fragrances have a calming, relaxing and refreshing
effect. Flowers have potent healing properties
too.
We
also offer aromatherapy massage in our clinics,
where combinations of essential oils are used.
Many of our formulations contain the essential
oils of flowers too. Many varieties of flowers are
used to extract essential oils. Some of these are
rose, jasmine, lavender, camomile, marigold,
lotus, orange flower (neroli), hibiscus.
Rose:
The fragrance of the rose itself was used
during the ancient times in the treatment of
psychological problems, as it was regarded as an
anti-depressant. It helps to calm the mind and
induce relaxation. Rose tones the vascular system
and has a soothing action. Due to this, it has
been widely used for cosmetic purposes. It
promotes blood circulation and removes toxins. It
is also used in treatments of the skin around the
eyes. The essential oil of rose is used for the
treatment of many ailments by herbalists and in
Ayurveda. Rose water is considered to be one of
the best natural skin toners.
Jasmine:
Is widely used in Asian countries. The
essential oil was used in combination with pressed
oils or lotions to massage the body. It was also
used for psychological and psychosomatic problems
during the ancient times. Jasmine is said to have
a sedative effect and at the same time it has an
uplifting effect on the mood and emotions. It was
used to treat feminine disorders, like relieving
uterine spasms or menstrual pain. Oil of jasmine
helps to warm and relax the body and is therefore
an ingredient in massage oils and creams. Like the
rose, it is not at all toxic and is therefore a
popular ingredient in cosmetic preparations. Used
in the right amounts, it is said to be beneficial
to dry and sensitive skin, specially when there is
redness and itching.
Lavender:
It is one of the most common and most
favourite of ingredients in toilet waters and in
skin tonics. It can be used in baths too. Lavender
also blends well with most other ingredients. It
is an extremely versatile ingredient. It is said
to have a tonic and sedative action in cases of
nervous tension, palpitations and even hysteria.
It is said to lower blood pressure. During ancient
times, it was used to treat problems like
depression, migraine, insomnia and nervous
tension. In skin-care preparations, it is used
mainly as a skin or scalp toner. It is refreshing
and relaxing. It is also suited to all skin types.
It has a soothing action in cases of skin
inflammation and skin eruptions, like pimples and
acne. It is also used to soothe skin conditions
like eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, scabies, etc.
Lavender has several benefits and is used in many
different kinds of ailments.
Orange
flower (Neroli): Neroli is extracted from the
flowers of citrus vulgaris (bitter orange). It is
used in the manufacture of eau de cologne. Like
lavender, it also blends well with other essential
oils. It has a calming effect on the mind and was
used to relieve anxiety and nervous tension. It is
an ingredient of toilet waters and skin toners.
Like lavender, it is a non-irritant and is used in
skin-care preparations. In fact, it is said to
soothe and relieve skin irritation and redness. It
is beneficial for dry skin and broken capillaries.
Its most useful property in skin care formulations
is its ability to remove dead epithelial cells and
stimulate the cell regeneration process. Thus, it
can help to delay the manifestation of ageing
signs on the skin.
Hibiscus:
Known as 'javakusuma,' it has been widely used
in India. It has been an ingredient in hair oils,
because of its soothing and cooling action on the
scalp. During ancient times, it was used to bring
down fevers. It has a beneficial action in
dandruff and itchy conditions of the scalp.
Hibiscus helps to remove pore clogging and close
the pores of the scalp due to its astringent
action. It is also said to stimulate blood
circulation to the scalp. In fact, it has
excellent tonic properties. Hibiscus extracts have
been included with extracts of brahmi, bhringaraj,
amla, henna, to formulate products for hair care,
like shampoos, oils, hair tonics, anti-dandruff
preparations, conditioners and rinses.
Lotus:
It has several medicinal properties, as it is
anti-allergic and anti-spasmodic. It also has an
astringent action and has been used in skin-care
preparations. It helps to soothe sun damage and
also protects the skin.
Camomile:
It is not a flower of the tropical regions,
but its essential oil has been widely used in skin
treatments. This is because it has an extremely
soothing and curative effect on the skin. It has
been used as a remedy for burns since the ancient
times. It also has a healing action on
inflammation, skin ulcers, boils and acne. It
helps to soothe the skin in cases of dehydrated
skin-sensitivity.
Marigold
and Calendula: The essential oils of these
have been used due to their therapeutic and tonic
properties, as well as an astringent action. They
are particularly useful in treating oily skin
conditions and dandruff. They help to reduce
oiliness from the skin surface and reduce enlarged
pores.
